Whales whaling ships and have been a huge part of our American history. For as long as I can remember I have been fascinated with whales. Having grown up, near the pacific coast for most of my growing up years, I have seen a large number of gray whales over the years off the Oregon Coast.
I learned later that the gray whales migrate from the Arctic and Bering Sea waters south down the Pacific coast line to the warm waters of the Baja Peninsula in Mexico to calve and rear their young. After the calves had grown stronger, the gray whales migrate back up the coast to the rich feeding grounds in the north. Seeing the gray whales from shore was a fairly frequent site depending upon the time of year it was during this migration.
