A vintage wicker fishing creel makes a great wall decoration or a functional end table piece for holding TV remotes, magazines, guides and the like. On a desk they make great letter organizers. A split willow wicker creel was used as an evaporative cooler for holding fish. Placing or lining the bottom of the creel with wet moss worked to keep fish cool. Typically they were placed over the fisherman’s shoulder with a leather strap and had a slot or hole in the top for the fisherman to easily drop fish into. This item was very popular and was part of many fisherman before the age of coolers, ice, and the like. They make great decorative items for fishing them decorating and a functional piece for storage too!
