Find authentic vintage western spurs and quality reproduction spurs on sale. Western theme-rodeo décor for the lodge or cabin is not complete without a set or two of spurs hanging on the wall. Spurs are used in all the riding sports even today. We display vintage collector’s pieces to quality reproductions and just about everything in between. Spurs have been used since the Roman times as well as the middle ages where knights were awarded silver gilded spurs when they were knighted. Hence the saying “he earned his spurs”.
How I earned my bull riding spurs story…
I grew up around ranches and cowboys my whole life. I believe the third largest rodeo, The Pendleton Round up is hosted in Pendleton, Oregon every year, not to mention the dozens of rodeos conducted during the summer in the rest of the state. Funny, I never really cared to ride a bull till I moved to Indiana?
Anyway, I bought my spurs, vest, helmet, bull rope, glove and rosin bag and off to rodeo I went. I rode 3 bulls at three different rodeos in Waynesville Ohio. The bull’s names were Hoss, Oreo, and Riptide and I stayed on for about 8 seconds accumulative if you added the three ride times. Ha! I guess I can say I rode bulls for 8 seconds, not a bull for 8 seconds. I was not that good at it and when my work found out, they quickly came out with a list of activities that they would not cover medical coverage for, which included “competing in rodeos”.
I guess I had to retire before I got famous. Pictured above are my bull riding spurs displayed on my western theme addition wall. My only regret is that I wish I could have won a belt buckle. Oh well…
